On the second day of the 31st Saxon-Bohemian Orienteering Days, the almost 1500 starters from Germany, the Czech Republic and some other European countries went to the forest area around the 652m high Buchberg. The orienteering event, which was held in best running conditions, was characterized by numerous altitude meters and rock controll points.
On the way to the finish area many age groups had to orientate through the rocky areas around the Nonnenfelsen. But even before that, there were numerous opportunities to lose time in a false rock gorge or on a false rock.
On the podium of the national ranking race and the regional championships of the Jeschken region ran in the women's elite Jana Peterová (OK Lokomotiva Pardubice) ahead of Michaela Metelková (OK 99 Hradec Králové) and Susen Lösch (USV Jena). In the men's race Pavel Kubát (OK 99 Hradec Králové) won ahead of Matthias Kretzschmar and Philipp Müller (both Post SV Dresden). On the optimal route, the elite classes had to complete 7 km with 435 meters of altitude difference and 11 km with 655 meters of altitude difference, respectively.
The finish area was located directly on the meadow at the gondola ride. All participants could choose from a wide entertainment and food program at the orienteering or the restaurant Gondelfahrt. The multilingual children's offers on site were highly frequented for more than 5 hours.
After a running-focused start at the sprint championship on Saturday, technically demanding runs followed on Sunday. The final event on Monday was the sprint relay in the park area around the Westpark.
