To conclude the 34th Saxon-Bohemian Orienteering Days, participants faced yet another course packed with rocky sections on an extended middle-distance route. In some age groups, there were also a few park sections to mix things up. The women’s race was won by a competitor from the Czech Republic. The men’s race was won by a German athlete.
SAXBO consistently presents major technical challenges, strong competition, and at times many steep climbs and rocky sections. With temperatures above 20 degrees and sunshine, Sunday’s extended middle-distance race required navigating numerous control points in the rocky areas northwest of Oybin. The key was often finding the right approach to head directly to the respective control and avoid wasting valuable time or gaining unnecessary elevation. Course setter Wieland Kundisch also routed the longer courses through several park areas in Oybin.
In the women’s main class, Markéta Poloprutská won again, ahead of Anna Fürstová (both Slavia Liberec). Kristýna Kolínová (Oddíl OB Kotlářka) finished third. The men’s main class was won by Konstantin Kunckel (USV TU Dresden), ahead of Martin Janata (Tatran Jablonec) and Dan Pavlovec (OK Jiskra Nový Bor).
In addition to the orienteering courses for the various age groups, the flag courses—both guided and unguided—were also well attended. Furthermore, comprehensive support services were available, along with a Go4-O event open to children and everyone else at the competition center at the Kammbaude in Oybin Hain.
After two very intense days, we would like to thank all participants for coming. See you next year.
