The Upper Lusatian District Sports Association invited participants to the Sports Holiday Games in Görlitz and Zittau during the Saxon fall break. For the first time, the SAXBO team was represented with its own orienteering program.
The holiday games have been offered in various Saxon holiday resorts for several years and are aimed at children and young people aged 7 and above. The aim is to provide a varied week for all interested parties with a wide range of sports, games, and exercise. The program always includes various sports, such as handball, athletics, basketball, and swimming. These activities are usually organized by local clubs.
Orienteering was also represented in Zittau for the first time during this holiday week. On Thursday afternoon, a Go4-O event was held in the gym on Kantstraße, in which the 12 participating children had to find the fastest way through a maze of cones. The orienteering activity was organized and supervised by athletes from the German SAXBO team, i.e., the SG Zittau Süd and HSG Turbine Zittau clubs. The equipment was provided by SV CH Sonnenland.
Many children first had to learn the basics of orienteering. But then everyone clearly enjoyed the tasks they were set. After about 1.5 hours, many courses had been completed and the fastest times recorded.
For us, it was a successful event with lots of questions about orienteering. Thank you very much for the positive feedback.
