The Alte Leipaer Straße is an old trade route from the 13th and 14th centuries, which stretches between the Zittau region and Bohemia. The long-distance race for the 33rd Saxon-Bohemian Orienteering Days was held on the orienteering map with the same name. There were many positive comments at the finish about the varied orienteering in the rocky area.
For the SAXBO 2011, the orienteering map north of Oybin (Hain) was surveyed for the last time. This year, the course was run on the reworked map in the area to the east and north-east of Jonsberg and in the adjacent rocky areas up to Ameisenberg and Pferdeberg. All participants were served varied courses with some steep climbs in the rocky areas, but otherwise also open forest areas and route choices in areas that are often easy to run. During the competition, it was therefore necessary to constantly switch between maximum concentration in the rock bands and running components.
In the elite classes, Małgorzata Pachnik (UKS “Orientpark.pl”) won the women's competition ahead of Markéta Poloprutská (Slavia Liberec orienteering) and Lone Constanze Pompe (SV Robotron Dresden). Leif Bader (Post SV Dresden) won the men's event ahead of Pavel Hradec (OK Chrastava) and Wojciech Pachnik (UKS “Orientpark.pl”).
The supporting program also included a Go4-O championship for the fastest “Saxbo-Stepper”, in which the 8 fastest times secured a place in the quarter-finals. From then on, the aim was to beat each other with the best time in a duel. Maxmilian Weber made it through to the final, where he won ahead of his teammate Václav Šnytr (both Team Jizerky). After several ties due to equal times in the small final, Greta Pompe (SV Robotron Dresden) and Vojtěch Votava (Slavia Liberec Orienteering) were both ranked third.
The weather could hardly have been better that day. The expected heavy rain in the Zittau Mountains did not materialize overnight. During the day, the sun shone almost continuously in the nature park, so that the almost 1000 participants, spectators and guests were able to spend a beautiful day in the forest or in the competition center around the Kammbaude.
