The first orienteering competition at Lake Olbersdorf is history. A mountain bike orienteering competition took place on Saturday in perfect weather conditions. Almost 60 participants from 5 nations took part as part of the Saxony Cup.
The junior series in mountain bike orienteering has led a bit of a shadowy existence in recent years, so some of the Zittau team decided to lend a helping hand, even though the burden of the annual SAXBO is already immense.
They therefore tried to keep the workload as low as possible. As many steps as possible were automated, the entire technology and large parts of the equipment came from SV CH Sonnenland.
In the end, we were rewarded with warm, sunny conditions and lots of beaming children's eyes. Even deserving national team riders from home and abroad honored us with their presence. After the race, there was plenty of time to analyze the routes in detail and spend the rest of the day relaxing by the lake, in the restaurant or at a barbecue together.
Even though the conditions kept changing, in the end it all worked out thanks to the support of the municipality, the assistance of the O-See sports club, the Captain Hook restaurant, the private forest owners and SeeCamping am Olbersdorfer See. Thank you very much!
After the sprint maps of the Zittau city area and the Westpark, which were mapped for the 2023 German Championships, Lake Olbersdorf has now also been mapped for orienteering.
